Gladstone


Founded at the confluence of the Willamette and Clackamas Rivers, Gladstone is surrounded by water on three sides. Prior to European settlement, several Native American groups resided in this area. This community has a small town ambiance, with a modest downtown area and wonderful public parks.

 

VIBE AND STYLE 

Homes from the postwar era line the streets for blocks inland up from the Clackamas River. Ranch style homes, spacious split-levels, and contemporary homes are found north of downtown in neighborhoods with numerous cul-de-sacs. If you continue up the ridge into Ridgegate and other woody neighborhoods, one can find 1970s-era contemporary homes bordering the windy streets. 

 

LOCAL SCENE

Gladstone is a quaint residential community with numerous parks and its own school district with one elementary, middle, and high school.  Residents largely require cars or use public transportation for shopping or dinning options since the residential neighborhoods are separated from the commercial districts.

The town’s biggest annual festival, the Gladstone Community Festival, typically occurs during the first week of August at the Max Patterson Park. The festival features live music, numerous food vendors, a parade, car show and interactive games. This tradition began as the Chautauqua Festival in 1894 and continues to bring the community together each summer.

 

OUTDOOR SANCTUARY 

With the Clackamas and Willamette Rivers bordering Gladstone, there are many outdoor activities to take advantage of. High Rocks Park is located on the Clackamas River in the 82nd Drive Commercial area. Fishermen use this park year-round and swimmers flock here during the summer to jump off the popular high rocks into the river below. Starting on Memorial Day and continuing through Labor Day, a lifeguard program monitors this swimming destination to maximize safety among visitors.

Max Patterson Park is another option for residents who wish to cool off during the summer. The interactive spray park features circulate chlorinated water for kids to run through and play in.

Meldrum Bar Park offers visitors year-round amenities such as covered picnic shelters, community gardens, a twelve acre sports field complex with four soccer fields, five softball/baseball fields, and paved pathways for cycling, running or walking.
